“An Eritrean immigrant and Afro-Italiano, Miela uses the intersectionality of her identities to tell stories and report on underrepresented communities. A human rights and social justice advocate, Miela is enrolled at UW-Milwaukee majoring in journalism and global studies with emphasis on peace conflict and community resolution. She aspires to become a war photojournalist and documentarian. Her work primarily focuses on the immigrant experience, but is not limited to: women and feminism, blackness, hip-hop, toxic masculinity and weaponizing radical softness.
Miela was a production intern at 371 Productions. She’s excited to learn more about the role that radio documentary and digital media play in the power of storytelling. She’s currently in pre-production on a documentary highlighting college homelessness.”
